Enhancing a Vital Connection

The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) is advancing its study of proposed improvements to Highway 102, from J Street to I-49. ARDOT has reviewed current roadway capabilities and traffic studies and will now begin environmental studies and public engagement activities.

An open house was held December 14, 2023 to discuss the proposed improvements.

Meeting the Needs of a Growing Population

Northwest Arkansas has experienced tremendous growth and acclaim in recent years. It was ranked the 10th best place to live by U.S. News and World Report for 2023-2024. The metropolitan area which includes Benton, Madison, and Washington Counties, is rapidly growing in population, with a projected population of one million by 2045!

The Walmart home office project in Bentonville is one example of this growth. The campus expansion will drive innovation and increase opportunities for the community. It will also bring more people to the area, resulting in increased usage of Highway 102, which has already experienced a 220 percent increase in daily traffic since 1990.

Community feedback will be essential to design the best solution for the increase in people moving through the area.
